National Poetry Day and the first day of Spring, March 21st 2023

To acknowledge and celebrate both these important days, I thought it would be an appropriate moment to post a little poem with accompanying sketch that I put together about 6 years ago during our time in France.  Spring came a little earlier in the  Pays de la Loire and was a wonderful period - we have a lovely collection of photos and memories of our garden which was really at its best during those months.

Here in Lincolnshire I've been out enjoying the recent warmer temperatures and sunshine - walking in the fields and lanes and really appreciating the blossoms, flowers and hedgerows coming into bud and bloom.

My poem follows, plus the daffodil sketch alongside, also our present kitchen windowsill, and a close-up of crocuses.

The March artist

In March the artist re-appears with easel, brush and palette,

he sits in hedgerows, banks and bushes noting every move and moment...

in all shades of yellow amongst the freshest and brightest of greens,

with hints of violet and splashes of white, he paints and records the changing scene.

Against a canvas bare and brown he dabs with pointillistic strokes...

a heady blend of expectation and excitement with his skill he cleverly evokes.

It seems a long time since we saw such colour,

through dreary months of winter slumber,

and now we are suddenly awakened

as each day the intensity deepens and strengthens...

There's an urgency not to miss a thing -

for it's well-known – the brevity of Spring.

We are all invited to the artist's amazing gratis exhibition,

presented each year anew for our delight and appreciation!
