ON MY BOOKSHELVES

On My Bookshelves I’m currently running a little series on Instagram (pariscelia_author) which you may like to follow. It focusses on a handful of authors of whom I’ve been a fan over the years – ranging from my first and lifelong appreciation and liking for Thomas Hardy to more contemporary writers such as Alan Bennett and Deborah Devonshire. I’m attaching three of my book ‘ensembles’ as examples to introduce you to my literary appetite – one especially for the month of May! I particularly enjoy reading short stories and each author mentioned is, in different ways, a brilliant short story writer. The ability to depict a memorable scene in a few words, describe characters concisely, plausibly and unforgettably, and use the vast palette of the English language to bring the stories to life, are all present in their writings. Of course I have many more favourites on my bookshelves but these are amongst my ‘specials’. I may even continue this mini series with a few ‘one hit wonders’ so watch out for those as well!
