It was very breezy yesterday when we called by at
our local boatyard, and I was reminded of those days living aboard on the
Blackwater with the sounds of the wind whistling through the rigging and
halyards, and Thorntree heaving up and down rhythmically against the old
staging. Depending on the wind direction we could either be knocking up against
the side or several feet distant from the shore when pulling on ropes,
sometimes using them as a tightrope, was the only way to reach land.
I seem to recall that often around lunchtime the
wind would ‘get up’ and be at it’s fiercest, and subdue again for an afternoon
nap! I am attaching a few photos taken yesterday – the boatyard being similar
in many respects to that of Maldon back around the Millennium. Not too smart or
too expensive and a wide selection of boats to gaze and dream about.
And some encouraging news about my book – many
people have said they are enjoying it and recommending it to friends and
family. There are reviews in the pipeline and some readers are now prompted to
get on with writing their own memoirs or ‘scenes from childhood’ as a result.
Attached are photos of both book and boatyard, one
even suggesting a favourite drink of mine……..
Maybe I’ll have a g&t later if I manage to load
my News item successfully!
